Overview

Synopsis

High school prodigy Light Yagami discovers a mysterious black notebook—the Death Note—dropped into the human world by the bored Shinigami (God of Death), Ryuk. The notebook grants its user the ability to kill anyone simply by writing their name while picturing their face.*
Light, disillusioned with a world he deems corrupt and evil, decides to use the notebook to create a global utopia by executing all criminals. The world quickly takes notice of the phenomenon and dubs the unseen vigilante "Kira" (a Japanese approximation of 'Killer'). As Kira's actions become a global security crisis, the International Police Organization enlists the help of the world's greatest and most enigmatic detective, known only as L.*
Death Note chronicles the intense, complex, and psychological game of cat-and-mouse between Light and L, each brilliant in their own right, as they try to expose the other and determine the nature of true justice. The series explores themes of morality, power, and the corrupting nature of absolute authority.
