In the cultural heart of Kyoto, an unnamed third-year university student—referred to only as "Watashi"—bitterly reflects on the past two years of his campus life. He entered college dreaming of a "rose-colored" experience filled with romance and accomplishment, only to be led astray by his ghoulish, mischief-making friend Ozu. In a Groundhog Day-esque cycle, the narrative resets at the end of each episode, sending Watashi back to his first year of college to join a different student "circle" (club). Whether he chooses the tennis club, the film circle, or an underground secret society, every path inevitably ends in disillusionment and chaos. Through surrealist animation and rapid-fire internal monologues, Watashi must learn that the perfect "rose-colored" life he seeks is a fantasy, and that he must instead seize the opportunities—and the people—right in front of him before he is trapped in the literal "galaxy" of his 4.5-mat tatami room forever.
