The story begins where most fantasies end: with the defeat of the Demon King. The elven mage Frieren, having outlived her companions after their ten-year quest, initially views her time with the "Hero's Party" as a mere fraction of her thousand-year life. However, after attending the funeral of the hero Himmel, she is struck by a sudden, overwhelming sense of guilt for not cherishing their brief time together. To better understand humanity and the hearts of her former friends, Frieren embarks on a new journey toward the northernmost lands—the place where souls rest—to speak with Himmel one last time. Along the way, she takes on a young apprentice, Fern, and learns that the "boring" side-quests and small moments are what truly defined her life's adventure.
