Overview

Synopsis

In a small town, rumors of a monster living in the tunnel behind the school spread among the children. When a young girl named Arie Kimura—who prophesies the end of the world—is pushed into a well by her classmates to appease the beast, she falls into a coma. The story weaves a complex, non-linear web between two timelines: the children's past and their broken adult lives eleven years later. As glowing butterflies begin to proliferate across the city, the characters realize that the horror they inflicted on Arie has created a ripple effect of violence and despair that connects them all. Reality and dreams merge in a "holographic" narrative where every act of cruelty is a piece of a larger, unavoidable apocalypse.

Character Relations

Arie & The Class: Arie is the 'sacrificial lamb' of the story; her classmates, driven by fear of her prophecies, push her into a well, an event that haunts their adult lives.

Suzuki & Higure: A bleak connection between a suicidal young man and his stalker-like companion, both trapped in the town's cycle of trauma.

Ms. Sakaki & Her Pupils: A teacher whose own past trauma (a bandaged face) prevents her from intervening in the bullying, leading to a lifetime of repressed guilt.
