Song Shuhang is an ordinary university student who accidentally joins a "Chuunibyou" (delusional) chat group called the "Nine Provinces Number One Group." The members talk about Daoist titles, medicinal pills, tribulation lightning, and "Senior White." Shuhang finds it amusing and plays along, assuming they are all role-playing nerds.
His worldview is shattered when he discovers that everything they discuss is real. The group members are actual ancient cultivators living in the modern world, using modern technology to keep in touch. Because he was "mistakenly" added to the group by the group leader, Shuhang is dragged into the world of cultivation. Despite his late start and lack of talent, Shuhang has an uncanny ability to "stumble" into fortuitous encounters, mostly thanks to his association with the incredibly lucky (and dangerously charming) Senior White. The story follows Shuhang as he desperately tries to keep his sanity while dealing with eccentric immortals, modern-day sect wars, and the sheer absurdity of high-level cultivation in the 21st century.
